Apaches announce new pitching coach
The Tyler Junior College Baseball Coach, Jon Groth, announced that the Apache baseball program has a
new pitching coach. The new coach has 16 years of professional baseball experience and has played for
four different Major League teams. Robert Ellis, former professional pitcher is the new Apache pitching
coach.
A four sport athlete from Bellaire HS in Baton Rouge, Lousiana, Ellis played football and baseball at
Northwestern State in Nachitoches, Louisiana before transferring to Panola College and pursuing
baseball. Robert brings a wealth of baseball experience to the Apache program. His playing experience
includes time in the Major Leagues with the California Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles
Dodgers and Texas Rangers. He was a key member of the 2001 World Championship Season with Arizona
and set a club record for starts by a rookie pitcher (17) for the Diamondbacks that season.
Robert continues to be known for his abilities as a top level pitching instructor, having worked closely with
numerous current professional pitchers including Carthage native and NY Mets pitcher, Phillip Humber and
Whitehouse native and Seattle Mariners pitcher, Travis Chick.
Coach Ellis is married to wife, Jodi and they have 3 children. The Ellis family lives in Whitehouse, TX
Groth on Robert Ellis:

Apache Player signs NCAA Division I scholarship
Brock Lemire, sophomore from Nederland and current Apache third baseman, signed a NCAA Division I
baseball scholarship at McNeese State University.
Lemire was very productive during his freshman year at TJC. The 5-10, 190 pound sophomore hit .323
with a slugging % of 460 in 38 games last year. He hit .378 with runners in scoring position and in 124 at
bats, scored 23 runs, had 40 hits and drove in 27 RBI's, leading TJC in that category. As a result of his
successful freshman year, Lemire was named to the TX-NM Junior College Baseball Coaches Association
ALL-STAR team this fall and played in that All-Star event at Baylor University in October.
Groth on Brock Lemire:
"...Brock came in last year and earned the starting 3B job early and was a key part of our success last
season...it was a great honor for Brock to be named to the TX-NMJCBCA All-Star team this fall...McNeese
State, as an NCAA Division I program, is a great place for Brock to be able to continue his baseball career

four-year student-athlete..."
